Hey Friends,
September is Sexual Health Awareness Month (as recognized by the American Sexual Health Association), as well as National Prostate Health Month (NPHM), which is also known as National Prostate Cancer Awareness Month. These observances are important to us here at Starship and we always want to do our part to raise awareness.
Have a Conversation
One of the best ways to contribute to a heightened consciousness is to start a conversation, (or many conversations) about sexual health, as its own topic, or as it relates to prostate health. If conversations are still uncomfortable, you aren’t alone, seek information and educate yourself. Sexual health is part of total health and often overlooked by our (mostly) repressed society. To end the stigmas and shame around sexuality we must normalize regular discourse about sex.
Sexual Health
According to the World Health Organization, sexual health is defined as “a state of physical, emotional, mental, & social well-being related to sexuality; it is not merely the absence of disease, dysfunction or infirmity. Sexual health requires the possibility of having pleasurable & safe sexual experiences, free of coercion, discrimination & violence. For sexual health to be attained and maintained, the sexual health of all persons must be respected, protected & fulfilled.”
